Hi, I’m Kate

After years involved in the engineering community and tech, I got tired of not seeing many people like me around. Lack of mentorship, community, and examples of people like them being successful are all among the reasons minorities struggle in engineering spaces. My aim behind the Tech Sis brand (as well as plenty of other things I do) is to help change that in the little way I can.

My experience includes:

FIRST Robotics volunteering: I have over 15 years volunteering with FIRST, including as a FRC robot inspector, FRC lead robot inspector, FTC and FRC referee, FTC head referee (including being a senior HR for FTC in Washington), FTC and FRC judge, FTC and FRC judge advisor, and many more.

FRC mentoring: I have mentored FRC teams for 10 years, and am currently a mentor of FRC 2910 Jack in the Bot. I mentor programming, specifically the intro to programming students.

Education: I am currently working on my master’s degree in computer science with a specialization in AI and machine learning. I have a bachelor's in computer science and an ass of ar’s of arts and sciences.

Work: I worked at Boeing as a software engineer for over a year in a half. Prior to graduating with my bachelor’s, I worked at IBM as a software engineering co-op for over six months. Prior to getting into tech, I worked in education.
